Route Overview

The Lemosho Route is widely considered the most beautiful route on Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting from the remote western Londorossi Gate, this 8-day journey offers pristine wilderness, diverse ecosystems, and the highest summit success rate of all routes. The extended duration allows for superior acclimatization, making it ideal for those who want to maximize their chances of reaching Uhuru Peak while enjoying a less crowded, more exclusive experience.

Day 1 - Londorosi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Drive to Londorossi Gate for registration, then continue to Lemosho Glades. Begin trekking through ancient rainforest with excellent chances of spotting wildlife including elephants and buffalo.

Day 2 - Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira1 Camp

Continue through the rainforest before emerging onto the spectacular Shira Plateau, an ancient caldera with expansive views and unique high-altitude vegetation.

Day 3 - Shira1 to Shira2 Camp

Traverse the Shira Plateau with stunning views of Kibo Peak. The gentle gradient allows excellent acclimatization while you absorb the plateau’s unique beauty.

Day 4 - Shira 2 to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

Ascend to Lava Tower at 4,630m for crucial acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp. This ‘climb high, sleep low’ day significantly boosts your summit chances.

Day 5 - Baranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Conquer the Barranco Wall, an exhilarating scramble with incredible views. Continue across the Karanga Valley to camp.

Day 6 - Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Ascend to Barafu Camp through increasingly barren alpine desert. Prepare mentally and physically for the summit attempt ahead.

Day 7 - Summit Night to Uhuru Peak

Begin the summit attempt at midnight, climbing under the stars to Stella Point. Watch the sunrise from the crater rim before continuing to Uhuru Peak. Descend to Mweka Camp.

Day 8 - Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your well-earned summit certificate before transfer to Arusha.
